Senior's Yoga with Lisa Zell
Thursday 1-2 PM
Join Lisa each week for a short meditation, then a mix of standing and chair poses in a practice designed just for Seniors, 65 or “better!”

All Levels with Lisa Zell
Thursday 5:30-6:45 PM  .:.  Friday Noon
Lisa's classes are intended for anyone who is on the path toward enlightenment.  We start with an opening meditation and set a personal intention before flowing into poses to open the heart, hips, mind, spirit, or whatever the moment presents to us! Working with the breath, we like to be playful as we explore deeper into poses, on the floor or mats alone, or moving to the walls, grabbing yummy blankets, or straps, blocks, chairs, bolsters, and sometimes each other as props!  In our Thursday night class we do a Restorative practice every six weeks ~ it would be every week if it were up to them!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is yoga?
Yoga is a Sanskrit word meaning yoke or union.

Is yoga a religion?
The practice of yoga is not a religion, but focus on spiritual growth and mastery over the physical and mental body is often a goal. You must create your own intent with this practice.

What do I need to begin?
The will to get yourself to class! Mats, blankets, blocks, straps and chairs will be provided if needed. If you really enjoy the practice you might want to consider purchasing a mat.

Do I have to be flexible?
Absolutely not! Yoga postures can help you become more flexible, but the focus of your practice is up to you! Let's focus on balance, quieting the mind, strength, coordination and heart and lung health.

What if I can not "keep up" with the class?
Yoga is not a competition! You must practice at your own pace, using props that suit you. Take time to rest if you need it! Always ask for help when you are unsure of instruction or you feel that the posture is not right for you. Be gentle with your body. Listen to your heart and body for a successful practice.

What should I wear?
Wear what feels best to move in bare feet, comfortable pants and top. Dress appropriate to your body temperature. Layer if you are unsure.

Should I eat before class?
Ideally you should eat 2-3 hours before a yoga practice. Because of the time of our class consider eating a light meal at least an hour before class or even try a snack before and a meal after class.

Why should I drink water after practice?
Water is elemental to sustain life. Drinking water helps flush toxins that are set free in the body during a yoga practice. When you do not drink enough water soreness of muscles is more likely. Be kind to your body.

What is an Intent?
At the beginning of each class we will sit quietly and tune in to the breath and physical body. You will be guided to create an intent for your practice. This is a short phrase based on gratitude and love that connects the mind with the breath. An intent can be a dedication to yourself, friends/family/community or global/universal.
Some examples include, health to my family, release my body of anxiety, healing energy to Mother Earth, healing energy to my loved ones or physical strength.

What does OM mean?
Om is a mantra or chant that signifies the sound of creation and the constant change of energy and the form it takes. It is said to bring a connection between the yogi or yoga practitioner and the energies of the universe, and it feels good when you say it.

What does Namaste mean?
Namaste is derived from the Sanskrit meaning to bow or salute meaning I bow with respect, love & light to the energies that we share. It is a common greeting in India inviting awareness and honoring life.
Common phrases: mountain pose, down dog, sun salutations, forward fold, child's pose, tree pose, peaceful warrior pose, table pose, cat/cow, extend, flex, connect with your intent, Shakti, chi, asana, pranayama, BREATHE
